Information Minister hosts GOCOP Exco, seeks media support, partnership

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, urged media practitioners in the country to collaborate with his Ministry and the government in order to foster the development of society.

During a meeting with the Executive Committee (Exco) members of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Malagi emphasized the importance of online publishers verifying information before publishing. He also expressed his pride in being their representative within the government of President Bola Tinubu.

“The President has appointed one of us, and the interests of the media are my interests,” said Malagi, who also encouraged the media to take an interest in his affairs.

Malagi appealed to media practitioners to partner with the government for the collective benefit of all, suggesting that they redirect their focus towards highlighting positive aspects of Nigeria that have been under-reported over the years.

Expressing gratitude to the Exco members for the meeting, the Minister acknowledged that he has been a keen observer of GOCOP activities for years.

GOCOP President, Maureen Chigbo, used the opportunity to congratulate the Minister on his appointment and informed him that GOCOP will be holding its 7th Annual Conference in Abuja on October 5th, 2023. She invited him to be a key partner in the event.

Other GOCOP members present at the meeting included the immediate past President, Mr. Dotun Oladipo, the current Deputy President, Danlami Nmodu, mni; Vice President (South), Ken Ugbeche; Vice President (North), Tom Chiahemen; General Secretary, Collins Edomaruse, and member Tajudeen Kareem who is based in Abuja.
