Kano State allocates N1.6 billion for grain distribution as fuel subsidy relief

Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the allocation of N1.6 billion for the purchase of grains to be distributed across the state.
This decision comes in response to the hardships faced by citizens following the removal of fuel subsidies.
The move aligns with the N5 billion palliative fund provided by the Federal Government to all 36 states in response to the fuel subsidy removal.
However, Governor Abba has urged the Federal Government to review the distribution process of the fund, emphasizing that it should be based on the population of each state.
Governor Abba clarified that the state’s distribution of grains will complement the five trailers of grain already allocated by the federal government.
He hoped that this distribution will alleviate food scarcity in the state.

Furthermore, Governor Abba convened a meeting with all appointed officials, including Commissioners, MDs, ESs, DGs, SAs, and SSAs, to discuss the food distribution plan.
He sternly reminded them that the food is intended for the impoverished masses and warned against any misuse.
Governor Abba emphasized that the state’s distribution will differ from other states, as they are providing the grains free of charge, in contrast to some states that sell them at a subsidized rate.
He also announced plans to empower women across the 44 local government areas of the state in the future, through the distribution of cows, sheep, and goats.
Additionally, the governor inaugurated a committee to address the challenges faced by pensioners due to unpaid guarantees and approved the full payment of registration fees for 7,000 Bayero University Kano students.
This measure aims to ease the burden caused by increased registration fees resulting from the federal government’s subsidy removal in the education sector.
To ensure student safety, the state government has also sanctioned the construction of three cross-over bridges along Bayero University Kano, Aminu Kano College of Legal Studies, and Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, enabling students to cross safely without mingling with dangerous highways.
Governor Abba expressed his gratitude for the support received from the people of Kano and reassured them of his dedication to serving them.
He believes that a leader should be a servant to the people and will continue working for their benefit.
