Minna police apprehend 12 in motorcycle, phone theft bust

Story from Hamzat Ibrahim ABAGA

The Minna Police Command of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has successfully apprehended 12 individuals involved in a notorious motorcycle and phone-snatching racket.

These criminals, who have been wreaking havoc in the city, were paraded at the police headquarters in Minna.

Leading the press conference, DSP Wasiu Abiodun unveiled the identities of the suspects, shedding light on their devious activities.

The ringleaders of the gang were identified as Jibrin Ndako, known by his alias “J.boy,” a 22-year-old from Barkin-Sale, Moh’d Usman, also known as “Smally,” a 20-year-old native of Sauka-Kahuta, and 25-year-old Kure Musa from the Kpakungu Area.

Their arrest became possible through the diligent efforts of the Minna police force, who apprehended the culprits in the Morris area of Minna.

Upon investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in various cases of motorcycle theft and phone snatching, primarily during the night, within and around Minna Metropolis.

Areas such as Barkin-Sale, Kpakungu, Shiroro Road, Mandela Road, Soje-A, Sauka-Kahuta, and nearby localities have fallen victim to their nefarious acts.

The police team tasked with unraveling this criminal network gained valuable insight into the operations when the suspects led them to the buyers of the stolen mobile phones.

Four individuals, namely Nasiru Moh’d, Suleiman Abubakar, Baba Ahmadu, and Murtala Isah, were exposed as the buyers of these illicit goods.

Additionally, the police uncovered a crucial lead regarding a suspect currently at large, Labaran, who specializes in erasing the IMEI numbers of stolen phones.

During the crackdown, the police arrested five individuals suspected of being involved in purchasing stolen motorcycles: Zakari Salihu, Sahabi Salihu, Bashiru Kabiru, Suleiman Tanko, and Ismail Umar.

These arrests took place in Paiko town, where they had been operating under the radar.

As a result of these swift and decisive actions, the police successfully recovered two mobile phones and three stolen motorcycles from the suspects.
