NFF/Peseiro: Eguavoen, Finidi shortlisted ahead Super Eagles clash with Sao Tome
In view of the current face-off between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, there are plans that the federation is considering hiring another coach ahead of AFCON qualifiers against Sao Tome.
To this, the federation has shortlisted Austin Eguavoen, Finidi George and Salisu Yusuf for the role of Technical Director if Peseiro’s contract extension is not resolved, according to an insider source, Adepoju Tobi Samuel.
Major decisions will be made this week at the Glass House in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on who will lead the Super Eagles as they play Sao Tome on Sunday, September 10.
“The NFF have shortlisted three coaches to take charge of the Sao Tome game, if Jose Peseiro’s contract issue is not resolved before the game,” the source stated.
“However, the federation must invite players for the game, and automatically, Austin Eguaveon steps in as the NFF Technical Director.
“The NFF Executives are considering a lot of factors and they will meet next week in Abuja to decide who will lead the team as the head coach for the game.
“Peseiro’s contract extension looks uncertain for now. A section of the Executives are against Eguaveon, while the Secretariat preferred Eguavoen.”
