President Bola Tinubu met with governors from states sharing borders with the neighbouring Niger Republic on Sunday evening.

The gathering served as a vital platform for the President to address the escalating situation in Niger Republic.

Notable attendees included Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu; Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi; Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; Kebbi State Governor, Idris Nasir, and Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda.

No formal statement has been issued yet on the President’s meeting with the five State governors, which was held at the State House, Abuja.

However, the meeting may not be unconnected to the proposed actions and other sanctions against the military junta in Niger Republic.

Neptune Prime reports that Niger’s democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, was ousted in a military coup carried out by the presidential guards. General Abdourahmane Tchiani later declared himself as the new head of state.

In response to the coup, ECOWAS under the leadership of President Tinubu gave the military junta an ultimatum to relinquish power or face potential military intervention.
