President Tinubu salutes Gen. Babangida at 82

President Bola Tinubu has extended his warmest wishes to retired Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who is celebrating his 82nd birthday.

In a statement issued by Mr. Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Tinubu shared in the joy of this occasion with Babangida’s family, friends, and associates.

Tinubu congratulated Babangida for his distinguished service within the Nigerian army, where he served in various capacities, ultimately rising to the position of Chief of Army Staff.

He highlighted Babangida’s significant role in the nation’s history, particularly his gallant defense of nationhood during the Nigerian Civil War, leaving an indelible legacy.

Acknowledging Babangida’s contributions to national development, Tinubu applauds his initiatives that strengthened the Federal structure, expanded physical infrastructure, and led to the liberalization of the media industry.

He also recognized Babangida’s efforts in the fields of health and defense.

Tinubu further underscored the enduring influence of the former Nigerian leader, who, even after three decades outside of power, continues to offer wisdom and counsel to political leaders, both within Nigeria and abroad.

The President concluded by extending his prayers for Babangida’s continued well-being and that of his family.
