Sweet victory for 10-man Liverpool over Newcastle, Rodri’s late goal takes City top 

 

 

Liverpool Football Club on Sunday evening showed class over Newcastle United despite being reduced to 10 men after Virgil van Dyke was sent off in the first half of the game.

Newcastle United were first to find the back of the net in the 25th minute after Anthony Gordon’s right footed shot from the centre of the box to the centre of the goal to make it 1-0.

Liverpool did not relent as they made effort to find a leveler but could no before the break.

The Reds returning pitch increased their effort to get a goal which finally came in the 81st minute as Darwin Nunez responded with a goal to level making it 1-1.

It wasn’t long when after Liverpool’s first goal again, Nunez answered the call after an assist from Mohamed Salah from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner to make it 2-1.

It was indeed a super Sunday for Liverpool who almost gave up but with their persistent and pressures on goal giving them the maximum three points climbing to seventh on the log.

Elsewhere, Manchester City go top after a resounding late goal from Rodri to beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane.

In the other match, Aston Villa trashed Burnley 3-1 after Matty Cash brace in the 8th and 20th minutes Burnley’s Lyle Foster’s goal in the 47th minute.

Villa extended their lead after Moussa Diaby 61st minute solid sealing of their victory.

Villa are sixth on the log with six points while Burnley are 18th.
