Wike threatens Abuja demolitions on day one

The newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, wasted no time in issuing a stern warning to property owners who had violated Abuja’s master plan.

On his first day in office, he unequivocally declared that any structure built in breach of the master plan would be subject to demolition.

During a press conference in Abuja following his swearing-in, Minister Wike stated, “All those people who are distorting the master plan of Abuja, too bad. If you know you have built where you’re not supposed to build, it will go down.”

He emphasized that this warning applied universally, extending to ministers and ambassadors, leaving no room for exemptions.

Furthermore, Minister Wike called out landowners who had encroached upon designated green areas and erected structures, demanding the immediate restoration of these areas.

He underscored the significance of preserving green spaces and expressed his dismay at those who disregarded their importance.

He firmly asserted, “If you hate green, you must hate yourself. So, if you know you have anybody involved that has taken over the green areas or has taken over the parks to where you now do restaurants, no, we will not accept that. Sorry”.

With this resolute stance, Minister Wike aims to safeguard the integrity of Abuja’s master plan and ensure that the city’s development aligns seamlessly with established guidelines.

His unwavering commitment to demolishing non-compliant structures underscores his dedication to creating a well-organized and sustainable capital city.
