WSCIJ tasks Neptune Prime on inclusive reporting of underrepresented groups
The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), on its Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Industry, and Accountability (CMEDIA) paid a visit to Neptune Prime Network to discuss their partnership and encourage the media organisation to further enhance its efforts for a vital purpose.
Professor Abigail Ogwezzy Ndisiki, a Technical Adviser, WSCIJcommended Neptune Prime for its activities and urged them to implement inclusive reportage of people with disabilities in order to effectively reach out to the government.

In addition, they emphasised the importance of proper documentation of all activities and the training of staff members to ensure their profiles accurately reflect their skills and expertise.
During the meeting, Mr Ademola Adebayo, Managing Editor of Neptune Prime, proposed the initiation of a new project with a focus on people with disabilities and also relevant media training for female undergraduates reporters on how to report stories involving Gender Based Violence (GBV).
He stated that the objective of the project is not to simply show pity but to showcase the immense potential and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Furthermore, Mrs Motunrayo Alaka, the ED/CEO of WSCIJ, calls for coverage expansion to areas such as orphanages and communities affected by the insurgency.
She emphasised the need for news stories to consistently engage with sources even after publication, enabling those individuals to have confidence that their voices are truly being heard
Mr. Ademola proposed that lectures on campus should also be given room to join such training, he discussed Neptune Prime’s plans to collaborate with other media houses, emphasizing the platform’s goal of making a difference by involving more women in storytelling.
While lamenting the challenges faced in recruiting and retaining northern women and graduates in the field, he emphasized the need to provide training and support to build a strong foundation for the future.
In his remark, Dr Hassan Gimba, the Publisher/CEO of Neptune Prime, spoke about the organisation’s commitment to nurturing talent, stating, “We always let our interns become our campus reporters.”
He highlighted Neptune Prime’s efforts to expand its reach through new mediums like podcasts, Twitter spaces, and television pages.
During the introduction session, Mrs Emen Nssien, the programme officer of WSCIJ, expressed her appreciation to Neptune Prime for their self-evaluation and excellent project management.
She commended the Managing Editor for his remarkable efforts and contributions to the effective running of activities.
Additionally, she advised him to ensure team cohesion and familiarity with projects, with a specific emphasis on creating more user-friendly content for multimedia platforms.
Others who contributed during the interactive discussions are Mr Alama Elikioya, the Monitoring/Evaluation Officer, and Mr Oni Afolabi, a Communication Officer.

The visit of WSCIJ to Neptune Prime aims to strengthen the partnership between the two organisations and explore ways to enhance media coverage for the greater good.
