Tribunal dismisses claims against Tinubu over US court forfeiture

The Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) has dismissed the Labour Party’s (LP) and Peter Obi’s claim seeking to disqualify Bola Tinubu due to the forfeiture of $460,000 in a US court.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, in his ruling on this aspect of the petition, stated that the petitioners had “evidently failed” to establish their case as required by Section 137(1)(d) of the Nigerian Constitution.

Justice Tsammani emphasized that the petitioners had not proven that the allegation in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, where Tinubu was ordered to forfeit $460,000, constituted a criminal case.

He added that Tinubu was neither arraigned nor pleaded guilty, and no prison sentence was imposed on him.
