Kidney Heist: Jos doctor admits to harvesting patient’s kidney, faces charges

In a startling turn of events, allegations of organ harvesting have surfaced against Dr. Noah Kekere, a medical practitioner operating in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.

The accusations have left a family in anguish and raised concerns about the safety of patients in his care.

Mrs. Kayinde Busari, a mother of four residing in Jos, found herself in the midst of this shocking revelation.

In 2017, she underwent what was supposed to be a routine appendectomy at Murna Clinic and Maternity, where Dr. Kekere was the attending physician. This was her first surgical experience, as she had previously delivered all her children through natural childbirth, without any complications.

What initially seemed like a straightforward surgery took a perplexing turn when Mrs. Busari began experiencing excruciating pain and weakness around her right abdomen six months after the procedure.

She returned to Murna Clinic, where Dr. Kekere had performed the surgery, seeking relief from the persistent discomfort. Over the years, she was repeatedly prescribed pain relief medication, but her condition did not improve.

It wasn’t until September 4, 2023, when Mrs. Busari sought a second opinion at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), that the shocking truth was unveiled.

A medical scan conducted at JUTH revealed that her right kidney was missing, the same side where Dr. Kekere had claimed to have removed her appendix during the initial surgery. This revelation left Mrs. Busari in tears and disbelief, as she had never consented to any kidney removal surgery.

Upon learning of this distressing discovery, her husband, Mr. Kamaru Busari, wasted no time in involving law enforcement. He reported the matter to the Nigerian Police, who subsequently arrested Dr. Noah Kekere at Murna Clinic and Maternity.

Dr. Kekere initially denied any involvement in the alleged organ harvesting but later confessed to removing Mrs. Busari’s kidney, attributing his actions to what he called the “devil’s influence.”

He also attempted to resolve the matter quietly with financial compensation.

However, to establish the veracity of these claims, another CT scan was conducted on Mrs. Busari on September 5, 2023, which confirmed the absence of her right kidney. The case now stands as a shocking instance of organ harvesting.

The concerned public and authorities are being urged to ensure justice is served in this distressing case.

Activists and organizations, including the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the Federal Ministry of Health, the Plateau State government, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang, are called upon to take decisive action.

These allegations have raised serious concerns about patient safety and demand a thorough investigation to determine if there might be additional victims of such heinous acts.

Dr. Noah Kekere is now facing criminal charges, and the Nigerian Police are expected to rigorously pursue this case to its conclusion.
