Police nab man posing as Commissioner of Police

Lagos State Police Command has arrested an individual who had been posing as a Police Commissioner and deceiving the public.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the arresr during a press briefing where he highlighted recent achievements of the police force.

Alongside the capture of the impersonator, the command has arrested eleven individuals involved in various criminal activities over the past two weeks. This commendable effort has resulted in the recovery of four firearms, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, 11 rounds of live ammunition, and a vehicle that were in the possession of the culprits.

Furthermore, authorities have seized two wristwatches, six phones, a quantity of suspected drugs, a walkie-talkie, police warrant cards, and police camouflage attire, including a cap and singlet.

The imposter, identified as Nwogu Emmanuel, was taken into custody on September 2nd at approximately 4:40 p.m. when he visited a police formation in the Ikorodu area, falsely presenting himself as a Commissioner of Police.

Although he was initially believed to hold the position, a thorough investigation revealed his true identity as an impersonator.

In another incident, the police responded to a complaint from the Nigeria Bar Association, Epe Area of Lagos, leading to the arrest of Ibrahim Bello on September 4th. Bello had allegedly been practicing law and representing clients at the Epe Magistrate Courts for several years, despite not having the necessary qualifications. The imposter was apprehended while dressed in a lawyer’s regalia at the court premises.

Items discovered in Bello’s possession include a portrait displaying the inscription: “Bello Law Firm Office, Obas & Chiefs of Lagos State Law, Tenancy Law 2015, Due Process of Law, and Law of Trespass of Land and Nuisance.” However, when questioned, Bello claimed to be an estate agent rather than a lawyer.

Additionally, a woman was arrested on Sunday in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu for allegedly being in possession of 97 wraps of colos, 22 wraps of loud, some mixtures of loud and Arizona and a sum of N271,600, her proceeds as at the time of arrest.

He added that other suspects were arrested for alleged rape, armed robbery, cultism and defilement, adding that after discreet investigation, the suspects would be prosecuted before a competent court of law.
