Bandits attack Zamfara community, abduct over 24 university students
In the early hours of Friday, a group of armed bandits invaded the Sabon-Gida community in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting more than 24 students from the Federal University of Gusau.
According to a student of the university, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, most of the abducted students are female. The attack took place in three different hostels within the community.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen arrived at around 3 am, opening fire indiscriminately.
Nazeer Sabon-Gida, a resident of the community, confirmed the incident, stating, “They entered the town around 3 am and started shooting indiscriminately.” He added, “We have yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students there. It is difficult to ascertain their numbers now.”
Despite a fierce gun battle between the bandits and troops of the Nigerian Army, the assailants managed to escape with the kidnapped victims.
According to a source, the bandits divided into two groups, with one group leading the kidnapped students while the other engaged in the gunfight with the army.
This incident follows previous protests by students of the university in June, expressing their concern over the frequent abductions of their fellow schoolmates in Sabon-Gida and Damba.
Sabon-Gida village, situated approximately 20 km from the state capital, Gusau, is located opposite the main campus of the Federal University of Gusau.
Efforts to reach the university authorities for comment were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson for the school, Umar Usman, did not respond to multiple phone calls.
The police command in the state has also not commented on the attack as of yet.
