Student remanded for alleged defilement of teenager at hotel

A 24-year-old student, Nduka Kalu, has been remanded by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on charges of luring a teenager to a hotel and defiling her.

During the court proceedings, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi decided not to take the defendant’s plea, stating that she needed advice from the state’s director of public prosecutions.

In light of this, Osunsanmi ordered that Kalu be kept at the Kirikiri custodial facility until the advice is received.

The defendant, a resident of 4, Petidabo St., Shomolu, Lagos State, is facing charges of defilement.

The court heard from the prosecutor, SP Raji Akeem, who stated that Kalu committed the offense on August 14 at Villa Hotel, Shasha, Lagos State. Allegedly, the defendant used a false pretense of helping the 14-year-old victim, whom he had met on Facebook, achieve her dreams of becoming a fashion model and actress.

Akeem further alleged that the defendant defiled the minor during this incident.

The defendant’s actions are in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case until October 19 for mention.
