Wike revokes 165 non-developed land plots in Abuja belonging to ex-governors, senators, others
In a move aimed at ensuring proper land utilization and development within the Federal Capital City, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has approved the revocation of 165 plots of land owned by ex-governors, senators, ministers, and others.
This decision was prompted by the continuous non-development of these plots, which violates the terms of agreement outlined in the 1978 Land Use Act.
The notice for revocation, drafted by the Land Department, received the personal approval of Minister Wike. These affected plots, owned by individuals and corporate organizations, failed to comply with Section 28(5) (a) & (b) of the Land Use Act.

The 165 plots are scattered across various districts of the Federal Capital City, including the Central Business District, Maitama, Wuse II, Gudu, Wuye, Jabi, Utako, Katampe Extension, Idu Industrial Area, and Asokoro.
The revocation of these plots stems from the violation of the terms of their Rights of Occupancy. Minister Wike, exercising his authority under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978, revoked these titles due to non-development.
Among the affected individuals are ex-governors/senators Liyel Imoke and Joshua Dariye, former Attorney-General of the Federation Kanu Agabi (SAN), and deceased former public office holders such as Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, Ufot Joseph Ekaette, and the late publisher of Leadership newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
Additionally, several companies, including Trade Bank, Wema Bank, Julius Berger, and Pearl & Diamond Properties Limited, have also had their land properties revoked.
Minister Wike had previously issued warnings to owners of undeveloped plots and those in violation of the city’s Land Use Act, cautioning that they could forfeit ownership.
The revocation of these plots underscores Minister Wike’s commitment to ensuring proper land development in Abuja.
