Zamfara Gov. summons security chiefs after abduction of university students

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has called for an emergency meeting with the heads of security agencies in the state in response to the recent abduction of students from the Federal University Gusau.

On Friday morning, gunmen raided the Sabon-Gida community in the Bungudu Local Government Area, kidnapping over 24 university students.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, stated that the purpose of the Security Council meeting is to secure the immediate release of all abducted individuals and to address the ongoing issue of insecurity, which has raised concerns within the administration.

Governor Lawal instructed his deputy, Mani Mummuni, to provide full support to the security agencies in their efforts to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

“During the meeting, the security chiefs assured the Deputy Governor of their commitment to restoring peace in the State. They equally unequivocally confirmed to the Deputy Governor that troops had successfully rescued six kidnap victims,” the statement read.

“The security Chiefs further assured that troops had neutralised scores of the kidnappers and are actively pursuing them to ensure the safe rescue of all victims.

“Mani Mallam Mummuni urged the heads of the Security agencies to improve troops’ presence in volatile areas for surveillance.
