Prof. Yemi Osinbajo becomes chairman of Foremost African Climate Agency

In a significant move towards combating climate change in Africa, the Climate Action Platform for Africa (CAP-A) has announced the appointment of former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as the new Chair of the Board of Directors. CAP-A, a public benefit organisation focused on unlocking Africa’s potential as a global climate action hub, made the announcement in a statement released yesterday.

CAP-A recognizes that Africa’s demographic profile, economic growth, and abundant natural resources position the continent to achieve not just net-zero emissions but also a substantial net-negative carbon footprint ahead of other regions in the world. By appointing Prof. Osinbajo, CAP-A aims to further strengthen its initiatives and shift the narrative from Africa as a victim of climate change to one where Africa plays a pivotal role in accelerating global climate action.

Expressing his acceptance of the appointment, Prof. Osinbajo acknowledged CAP-A’s work in changing the perception of Africa’s climate crisis.

He stated, “I have witnessed their work in shifting the global and continental narrative from Africa being a victim of the climate crisis to holding the key to accelerating global climate action. I’m honored to join the Board of Directors as Chair in support of CAP-A’s teams and programs across the continent and in realizing Africa’s economic development through Climate Positive Growth.”

CAP-A’s founder, James Mwangi, expressed his deep appreciation for Prof. Osinbajo joining the organization. He highlighted the importance of Osinbajo’s experience and passion in helping CAP-A in its mission to unlock Africa’s climate action potential and promote sustainable economic development. Mwangi emphasized the significance of this appointment, especially following the inaugural Africa Climate Summit, which emphasized the need for accelerated climate action.

With Prof. Osinbajo assuming the role of Chairman, CAP-A aims to make significant strides in its mission of positioning Africa as a leading hub for climate action.

This appointment reflects the organization’s commitment to harnessing Africa’s resources while addressing climate challenges and fostering sustainable growth across the continent.
