Bandits in Katsina murder 16 health workers

In a devastating turn of events, bandits in Katsina state have brutally slaughtered 16 health workers, out of a total of 83 who were kidnapped.

Comrade Mannir Mohammed Suleiman, Chairman of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria in the state, shared this heart-wrenching information during a dinner held in honor of Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya, who was reappointed as the Executive Secretary of the state Primary Health Care Agency in Katsina.

Suleiman revealed that out of the 83 health workers kidnapped, 65 were eventually released after ransom payments were made. Alongside this, 16 health personnel tragically lost their lives during the incidents that have occurred over the span of eight years.

He further added that one individual managed to escape with a bullet wound, while another person has been missing for the past four years, their whereabouts still unknown.

In light of these horrific events, the state Union chairman urged the government to review the staff register and welfare of health workers, particularly in the Frontline Local Government Areas facing high insecurity challenges day and night.

Expressing his congratulations to the reappointed Executive Secretary of the Health agency, Suleiman emphasized that this decision demonstrates the Governor’s trust and confidence in him to uplift the agency to even greater heights in the state.

In closing, while praying for divine guidance and protection for the reappointed health care agency boss, Comrade Mannir Mohammed Suleiman assured the Union’s unwavering support and cooperation as he fulfills his vital responsibilities.
