EFCC returns stolen assets to American victim of love scam
In a heartwarming development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully returned stolen assets to an American victim, Cheryldene Cook, who fell victim to a love scam orchestrated by a fraudster known as Aisosa Ohue, alias Frederick Leonard.
According to EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren, the recovered assets include N19 million in cash, a three-bedroom semi-detached duplex located in Ward 36A Amagba Community, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, a Lexus E350 saloon car, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and a Samsung A31 phone.
These belongings were officially presented to the victim in Abuja by Zonal Commander ACE I, Adebayo Adeniyi, and Head of the Advanced Fee Fraud Section 1, ACE II, Jimoh Rauf.
Cheryldene Cook, who flew in from the United States of America to receive the items, was accompanied by her lawyer, Dr. Mike Nwosu, during her visit to the commission.

She expressed her deep appreciation to the EFCC for successfully recovering the assets that were wrongfully taken from her.
It’s important to note that Justice C.E. Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje had previously ordered the forfeiture of these assets after Ohue was found guilty of a three-count charge, including obtaining money under false pretenses.
The convicted fraudster had deceived the victim through a love scam, posing as the renowned actor Frederick Leonard.
The EFCC’s dedication to combating cybercrime and providing restitution to victims underscores their commitment to justice and ensuring that those engaging in fraudulent activities are held accountable.
