Electricity vandal electrocuted while stealing transformer cables

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Friday at the Niger State Printing Press in Minna when an unidentified man was electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables.

The lifeless body of the individual was discovered by printing press staff hanging from the transformer on Friday morning. Aminu Ubandoma, the Head of the Legal Unit at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), confirmed the incident to reporters.

Ubandoma revealed that the company had been receiving multiple reports of transformer vandalism and, in response, was collaborating with security agencies, particularly the police, to minimize these incidents.

Spokesperson for the Niger Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, also confirmed the incident. He stated that on Friday at approximately 11:00 a.m., a case of suspected electrocution/vandalism was reported.

The body of an unidentified male adult, discovered at the printing press premises near the old secretariat area, was found next to a transformer with a cable cutter and several vandalized cables.

The individual is believed to have been electrocuted. The body was promptly taken to the General Hospital Minna by the Morris patrol team, where the unfortunate individual was pronounced dead.

Efforts are currently underway to locate the deceased’s relatives, as the incident is being investigated in collaboration with the AEDC.
