Kaduna police bust cult initiation, arrest 13 suspects

Kaduna State Police Command made a significant breakthrough on Monday when they apprehended 13 suspected cult members who had converged at Graceland in Zaria, Sabon Gari local government area of Kaduna State for initiation.

These individuals hailed from various higher education institutions across the country.

Commissioner of Police for Kaduna Police Command, Musa Yusuf Garba, emphasized the critical role of parental guidance in preventing young individuals from getting involved in illicit activities that can tarnish their names and bring regret.

Acting Spokesman for the Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, issued a statement explaining that the suspects were apprehended by the Command’s operatives attached to the Divisional Headquarters Sabon Gari Zaria on Monday.

According to him, the arrested suspects confessed to being members of the Aiye confraternity who had assembled in the Graceland area for initiation.

He said: “On September 10, 2023, at approximately 03:10 AM, this unlawful group, armed with machetes and other handheld weapons, invaded the Graceland community, breaking into homes, causing injuries, and robbing residents of their possessions, including GSM mobile phones, money, jewelry, ATM cards, and more.

“They subsequently escaped into a nearby forest.

“The police operatives diligently tracked them to their hideout in the bushes and tactically apprehended thirteen (13) of them, with the exact number of individuals involved yet to be determined.

“The arrested individuals are cooperating with the police investigation, particularly in identifying and capturing the remaining suspects.”

The Commissioner of Police commended the dedication of the operatives and urged the public to promptly report any suspicious individuals or group activities to the nearest police station or security agency.
