Kano man returns deceased father’s accumulated salary to gov’t

A young man from Kano State, Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila, has returned the salary received through his deceased father’s account to the state government.

This commendable act has earned him recognition and praise from Kano State governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Digital Media, shared the news in a statement on his verified X account.

He said Sumaila’s father passed away in October 2022, but the state government continued to deposit his salary until August 2023.

Upon realising this ongoing payment, Sumaila promptly took action and returned the sum of N328,115.75 to the government, highlighting the fact that his father had passed away a year ago.

He officially requested that the payments be stopped and voluntarily returned the accumulated salary.

Impressed by Sumaila’s integrity and honesty, Governor Yusuf personally invited him to his office to express his gratitude.

During the meeting, the governor commended Sumaila for his remarkable gesture and emphasised the importance of honesty as a core value. He encouraged other young people to follow Sumaila’s example and uphold the principles of integrity.

Not many people can do this selfless act. What do you think of such a gesture?
