Lagos Police arrest 20-year-old girl for stealing N4 million from Police Commissioner

A 20-year-old lady, Miss Marvelous Effiong, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a retired Commissioner of Police, CP Tunde Adagunduro, to the tune of N4 million in a hotel.

It was revealed that the incident happened at Maclene Resort, located at Okoye Street, Bucknor area of Lagos.

The Police alleged that the suspect applied to be employed in the hotel belonging to retired CP Adagunduro and was eventually employed as a staff.

She reportedly started stealing money from the hotel until she was caught and an audit was carried out. From the audit, it was discovered that she had been stealing money realised in the hotel.

She was subsequently handed over to the Police at Ejigbo Division and detained for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However, she pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.

The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for a hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Ariyo, granted her bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.

The matter was adjourned till 19th September 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
