Late General’s wives, children fight dirty over inheritance

A legal battle has commenced over the multi-billion Naira estate left behind by late Major General Abdullahi Iyanda Muraina, as his two wives and their children have taken the matter to court.

The 64-year-old general, who passed away in a Dubai hospital last year, left behind a significant estate consisting of event venues, shopping plazas, houses, and plots of land in Abuja and Oyo State.

Since the late general died intestate, a dispute has arisen between his first wife, Alhaja Peju Muraina, and his second wife, Ann Usiagu-Muraina, regarding the distribution of the properties to his heirs in accordance with Islamic law.

Ann, who owns a microfinance bank called FORTEM MFI, has challenged the intestate distribution and has placed a caveat emptor on the properties, including six vehicles, three of which are bulletproof.

Among the properties in contention are the Mauve Event Centre and Mauve Lounge in Ibadan, the Smart Bridge Plaza in Utako Abuja, Pathfield Plaza in Gwarinpa, the houses in highbrow Asokoro District of Abuja and Sun City Abuja, as well as various other properties and plots of land in different locations.

Ann Usiagu-Muraina’s lawyers have warned that the Gudu court has jurisdiction over all the assets listed in the public notice and that anyone conducting business with these properties does so at their own risk. No hearing date has been set for the case.

Late General Abdullahi Iyanda Muraina served not only in the military but also held a position at the Nigerian Institute of Management, where he became the president.

He had an extensive educational background and held various positions throughout his career before retiring as the Chief of Accounts and Budget, Nigerian Army Headquarters.
