NEDC mulls establishing Boko Haram museum in Maiduguri
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) is contemplating the establishment of a museum dedicated to the Boko Haram insurgency in Maiduguri, Borno, in collaboration with the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
This announcement came during an event commemorating the 2023 International Day of Peace, organized by the Peace Ambassador Centre for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment, where Mr. Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director of the Commission, made the revelation.
Alkali emphasized that the museum would serve as a tangible record of the insurgency’s impact, allowing future generations to comprehend the conflict more fully.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to assisting insurgency victims and highlighted its integral role in supporting the University’s Centre for Counter Terrorism.

Furthermore, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed gratitude for NEDC’s contributions to peace-building initiatives in the region.
He acknowledged the Commission’s construction of the Centre for Peace and Counter Terrorism Research within the University.
Shugaba proudly stated that the University never ceased operations despite the insurgency, viewing closure as a concession to the terrorists’ ideology.
The event’s highlights included paper presentations and the recognition of Mr. Alkali and other individuals for their significant contributions to peace restoration in Borno and the surrounding region.
