Niger State embarks on ambitious 1,500km road rehabilitation, construction plan
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced ambitious plans to undertake the rehabilitation and construction of 1,500 kilometers of roads within the next four years.
This announcement was made through a press release issued by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State.
The Governor unveiled this commitment during the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation and construction of a 202-kilometer network of roads within Minna township.
Governor Umaru Bago emphasized that these road projects are integral to his administration’s aggressive urban renewal policy, which promises to bring about significant transformation across the state.
He also noted that Niger State hosts several Federal roads and assured the public that discussions with the Presidency were underway to secure funds for Federal road projects.
Furthermore, Governor Bago encouraged the youth to capitalize on the opportunities presented by these road projects, as both materials and labor would be sourced locally.
He also revealed plans by the state government, through the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, to launch empowerment schemes benefiting those who engage in business activities around the construction sites.
Suleiman Umar, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, provided insights into the project, which comprises a total of 202.4 kilometers, divided into two phases. Phase one encompasses eight roads, while phase two includes 14 roads.
Additionally, the project will feature five interchanges, strategically located flyovers, and new roads to enhance connectivity within the State Capital.

Describing this undertaking as one of the most ambitious urban development projects in the history of the state, Commissioner Umar reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to closely monitor and supervise the projects to ensure their timely completion.
Barr. Abdulmalik Muhammed, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, lauded Governor Bago’s steadfast determination to transform the state, pledging continued support from the legislative arm for the benefit of all citizens.
Mr. David Wang, Managing Director of the China Civil Engineering Corporation (CCECC), commended Governor Umaru Bago’s resilience and vision in spearheading massive infrastructural development in Niger State.
He pledged collaboration with relevant stakeholders and a harmonious relationship with the local community to ensure timely and high-quality project delivery.
In their respective messages of goodwill, Aminu Ladan, Chairman of Chanchaga Council, and Hajiya Ladidi Rakiya Bawa, Chairman of Bosso Council, applauded the Governor for his commendable infrastructural initiatives aimed at advancing the state.
Additionally, the Emir of Minna, HRH. Ali Umar Faruk Bahago, expressed admiration for Governor Bago’s commitment to urban renewal and assured continued support from the Minna emirate and the entire Traditional Institution for the Governor’s policies.
Upon the completion of the township roads, Minna, the state capital, will see its size expanded to 100 square kilometers.
