NNPC implements major shake-up, dismisses top management staff

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has initiated a significant restructuring by removing top-level management staff who are within 15 months of retirement.

This decision follows the recent announcement of the removal and replacement of three Executive Vice Presidents (EVPs) within the organization.

Those affected in the prior shake-up included Abdulkabir Ahmed, who previously oversaw gas, power, and new energy; Adokiye Tombomieye, responsible for the upstream segment, and Adeyemi Adetunji, who headed the downstream division.

They have been succeeded by Olalekan Ogunleye as EVP of gas, power, and new energies; Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, who now oversees upstream operations, and Adedapo Segun, who has assumed responsibility for the downstream sector.

In a concise statement released on Tuesday morning, NNPC explained that this latest reshuffling aligns with their commitment to revitalize their workforce:

“As part of our ongoing efforts to rejuvenate our organizational structure and support the achievement of our strategic business goals, we find it necessary to reorganize our workforce.”

The statement further revealed that, in addition to the recent departure of three executive vice presidents, other members of the management team with less than 15 months until their statutory retirement will be leaving the company, effective September 19, 2023.
