No truth to Kuje mining disaster claims, clarifies FCT Police Commissioner

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted media reports alleging the death of 30 individuals due to a landslide resulting from mining activities in the Kuje area council.

The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Police Command, CP Haruna Garba, addressed these claims on Tuesday, emphasizing that after a thorough investigation, the Police found no evidence to support such an incident.

In a statement, the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, relayed the commissioner’s message: “CP Haruna Garba of the FCT Police Command urges residents of the Federal Capital Territory to dismiss the circulating news of 30 casualties caused by a mining-related landslide in Kuje area council, as no such event occurred.

“This erroneous information not only aims to incite fear and panic among Nigerians but also to falsely portray the FCT as an unsafe place. The Federal Capital Territory remains the safest and most secure part of the country.”

She further stated, “The commissioner strongly warns non-state actors involved in spreading misleading information to cease such activities.

“He calls upon FCT residents to demonstrate patriotism and collaborate with the police for enhanced service delivery. Additionally, he encourages FCT residents to utilize the Police Control Room contact numbers to report any suspicious or criminal activities: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.”
