Zamfara women retaliate in anger, abduct bandits’ wives

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of some Fulani women alleged to be the wives of bandits’ terrorising the community of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of the state.
The residents of the local community, after enduring endless oppression, taxation, beating, kidnapping and other forms of harassment from the gunmen who have turned the once peaceful town of Birnin Magaji into a terror axis, recently decided to bare their own fangs at the terrorists who have been oppressing them for years.
According to reports, some women of Birnin Magaji town, the headquarters of the LGA, abducted two Fulani women, including a pregnant wife, in retaliation for the recent abduction of their kinsmen by the bandits.
Speaking to journalists on the issue, the spokesperson for the state command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, said the police received a report that some women were abducted in the Birnin Magaji community.
He, however, said he could not tell if the victims were the wives of bandits.
He said, “The command is quite aware that some Fulani women were abducted in Birnin Magaji town.
“What we don’t know is that, are the women really the wives of the bandits? We are investigating the issue and will issue a statement regarding this.”
Meanwhile, a source from the community who pleaded to remain anonymous said that the abductors had since released the women following orders from the authorities.
However, the state Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Kabiru Moyi, said the state government had no hand in the release of the abducted Fulani women.
He said, “Let me categorically tell the general public that the Zamfara State Government did not order the release of the Fulani women abducted by the Birnin Magaji community.”
