Gombe University bestows title of Professor Emeritus upon Professor Idris Muhammad

Gombe State University has honoured esteemed scholar, Professor Idris Muhammad, with the title of Professor Emeritus of Infectious Disease and Immunology on 7th October 2023.

Professor Idris Muhammad, OON NNOM MD FRCP FAS, born on April 15, 1942, in Gombe State, has an impressive academic and professional background that spanned years.

Professor Muhammad completed his MBBS degree at the University of Ibadan in 1969.

He continued his education in the United Kingdom, where he pursued postgraduate studies and obtained membership with the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), which was later upgraded to FRCP.

Additionally, he earned a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) from the University of London, as well as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Immunology.

With a distinguished career, Professor Muhammad has held significant roles in the medical field. He served as a Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health in Bauchi State and later became a Professor of Medicine at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in 1983.

He was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri (UMTH) from 1985 to 1994.

Throughout his career, he has served as the Chairman of the National Programme on Immunisation, Chairman of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Gombe State University, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alhikmah University in Ilorin.

The prestigious title of Professor Emeritus bestowed upon Professor Idris Muhammad, highlights his exceptional contributions to the field of Infectious Disease and Immunology.

His remarkable achievements and dedication to academic excellence have undoubtedly made a profound impact on the medical community and beyond.
