Bayelsa Governor’s Special Assistant defects to APC over ‘hunger’
Charles Kurobo, a Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa State Governor and the leader of Chairmen, Niger Delta Ex-agitators’ Leadership Forum, First Phase, Bayelsa State Chapter, has officially left Governor Douye Diri and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Kurobo’s primary reason for his defection is his claim of suffering from hunger.
Kurobo expressed his concerns over the precarious state of his livelihood, asserting that he felt compelled to switch to the APC to avoid succumbing to hunger as a political appointee in the service of the governor.

The former militant leader revealed that he decided to make this transition public due to the loss of faith in him by his family, dependents, and associates. They had been disappointed by his inability to support their needs despite his influential position as a political figure working for a sitting governor.
He emphasized, “My role as a Senior Special Assistant to the governor on special duties should have a positive impact on the well-being of those close to me, especially my immediate family. Unfortunately, even recharging my phone for effective communication would have been a significant challenge, if not for the timely assistance from other crucial stakeholders within the Niger Delta region.”
Kurobo criticized the Governor’s administration for allegedly causing hunger and hardship, yet still garnering support from some Bayelsans. He questioned the wisdom of continuing down a path of potential hardship and urged the people to reconsider their loyalties.
He called upon the residents of Bayelsa to align with the APC gubernatorial candidate, Timipre Sylva, and view their support as a political revolution through the ballot that would promote equity, justice, and the welfare of all in the state’s development.
Kurobo concluded by stating, “On behalf of my family, the APC leadership, from the grassroots to the highest echelons, I urge individuals from all walks of life to rise to the occasion and accept the challenge so that Chief Timipre Sylva is elected in the upcoming November 11, 2023, election.”
