EFCC arrests Chike Agada for ₦2b Forex fraud

In a recent development, the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending Chike Nosa Agada, an unlicensed foreign exchange dealer, who was wanted for an alleged N2 billion fraud.

The 37-year-old suspect, originally from Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, was declared wanted by the Commission on October 11, 2023, for various charges including obtaining money by false pretense and stealing by conversion.

The arrest of Chike Nosa Agada took place during a sting operation conducted by EFCC operatives at his residence in the Bourdillion area of Ikoyi, Lagos, on October 16, 2023. This operation was prompted by credible intelligence that linked him to the aforementioned fraud. Upon his arrest, a mobile device was also recovered from the suspect.

As investigations into the case continue, the EFCC has stated that Chike Nosa Agada will be charged to court once the necessary inquiries are concluded. The agency is determined to ensure accountability and justice prevail in such matters.

In a related story, human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) shared his viewpoint on the appointment of chairmen for both the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Falana maintains that, to uphold the federal character principle, it is crucial that the chairmen of these two anti-corruption bodies do not come from the same geopolitical zone. According to him, if one chairman is from the northern region, the other should be selected from the southern region. Falana made these remarks during a recent interview on Channels TV.

The relevance of maintaining a balance and fair representation within these institutions is crucial in fostering trust and ensuring that justice is served in all areas of the country.
