Electrical explosion kills six, injures others in Plateau

In the early hours of Saturday, a devastating explosion believed to have been caused by an electrical fault rocked the peaceful Kabong Central Community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving six individuals dead and two others severely injured.

The incident occurred around 2 am when a transformer malfunctioned, sparking a destructive fire that quickly engulfed the area. The blast sent shockwaves throughout the community, instilling panic and fear among the residents.

Several shops were also destroyed in the inferno, resulting in a significant financial loss estimated to be in the millions of naira.

Confirming the tragic event, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated, “Yes, we are aware of the incident at Kabong Central, where six people lost their lives and two others were critically injured. One of the injured individuals is currently receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, while the other is being cared for at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.”

Alabo further added, “On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Julius Alawari, I have personally visited and extended condolences to the grieving family of the deceased.”

Although early reports point to an electrical explosion as the cause of the fire, investigations have commenced to unravel the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident. Authorities remain committed to determining the root cause and taking necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
