Hamas releases American hostages following Gaza conflict

Two U.S. hostages, a mother and her daughter, have been released by Hamas, a Palestinian militant group.

The spokesman for Hamas’ military wing stated that the group released the captives “for humanitarian reasons.”

A diplomat also confirmed this information to Margaret Brennan, the moderator of “Face the Nation” on CBS News.

The release comes in the wake of events that unfolded nearly two weeks ago when the group, which controls the Gaza Strip, carried out a brutal terror attack in southern Israel, triggering a volatile situation and igniting a conflict.

Additional details about the release and the circumstances leading to it are not immediately available.

Israel’s military had previously accused Hamas of holding over 200 people hostage during the recent hostilities.
