Israel requests ammunition from Germany for its warships in ongoing conflict

Israel has requested ammunition from Germany for its warships following a large-scale cross-border raid by Hamas, according to German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.

Speaking at a meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) defence ministers in Brussels, Pistorius said he would liaise with Israeli partners to establish the details of the request.

In response to the ongoing conflict, Germany is providing medical equipment and granting Israel permission to use two drones stationed in the region, he said.

“We stand with Israel,’’ he said, as fighting between Israel and Hamas goes into its sixth day.

The ministers were set to receive a video briefing from their Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, on developments in the conflict.

Israeli officials say that 1,200 Israelis have been killed since Hamas launched a bloody rampage on communities and an electronic music festival near the Gaza Strip.

The military says 189 Israeli soldiers are among the dead.

Israel launched retaliatory airstrikes on Gaza that Palestinian officials say have killed at least 1,100 people.
