Lagos to sack DPO for alleged extortion of N200,000 from engineer
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Idowu Owohunwa, has taken swift action by ordering the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Meiran Police Station in Lagos State.
This decision comes after allegations of extortion were made against some police officers attached to the station.

An engineer named Ibrahim Saliu came forward and revealed that he was extorted N200,000 by the police officers at the Meiran Police Station on Saturday. According to Saliu, the officers, including the DPO, threatened him and his brother with false accusations of theft and armed robbery unless they provided receipts for the phones in their possession.
Saliu recounted, “The DPO took the iPhones, removed the warranty stickers, and declared that my brother and I are thieves and armed robbers. The next thing I heard was the DPO giving them an order to detain us and that we would be locked up for stealing and armed robbery. We were surprised and started begging.”
In response to this incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed in a tweet that the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate removal of the Meiran Police Station DPO.
Hundeyin stated, “CP Idowu Owohunwa has ordered the immediate removal of DPO Meiran for leadership dereliction and supervisory ineptitude. Meanwhile, all the officers involved have been identified and are currently at the Command headquarters where their orderly room trial has commenced.”
The police authorities are taking these allegations seriously and are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
