She stated, “This eight-year-old girl has been repeatedly molested by her stepfather, leading to severe health issues that have been confirmed by medical professionals. Despite the mother’s plea to avoid her husband’s imprisonment, we are suing her for negligence as she allowed this suffering to persist. We are also taking legal action against the man to ensure justice is served for the young girl.”
The minister emphasized the importance of the rule of law and the need for justice on behalf of the victim. She also called for the establishment of mobile courts to expedite the prosecution of cases related to sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices.
Minister Ohanenye concluded by stating, “No more business as usual; if you commit a crime, you will be held accountable. We urge our president, attorney general, and state chief judges to approve the establishment of mobile courts to accelerate matters concerning women’s affairs and defend their rights.”
