New NCC boss expresses commitment to digital transformation agenda
Dr. Aminu Maida, the new Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has expressed his commitment to aligning the Commission’s regulatory focus with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda to advance the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
During a meeting with the Senior Management team at the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja, Dr. Maida emphasized the importance of ensuring affordable and reliable broadband services for all Nigerians. He highlighted the need for effective broadband infrastructure diffusion across the country.
Dr. Maida also paid tribute to the former chief executives of the Commission, acknowledging their significant contributions in building a resilient telecoms industry. He outlined that improving the quality of service on the networks and supporting the vision of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy are among his priorities.

In line with President Tinubu’s vision, Dr. Maida stressed the importance of building robust broadband connectivity to facilitate seamless digital transactions and serve as the foundation for e-governance and other socio-economic initiatives. He set ambitious goals to increase broadband penetration to 70% and provide coverage to 90% of the population by 2025. To achieve these goals, he outlined the need to address key issues such as Right of Way (RoW) challenges and ensuring the security of telecom infrastructure.
Dr. Maida emphasized that the NCC’s actions must align directly with the Strategic Plan of the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and ultimately, the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He highlighted the Ministry’s plan to empower three million Nigerians in digital skills and entrepreneurship, calling for support of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) as a vital training institution for driving youth empowerment.
Furthermore, Dr. Maida emphasized effective spectrum management and utilization as crucial for supporting the digital connectivity agenda, which plays a vital role in service deployment across Nigeria.
