Nigerian university students to face disruptions as SSANU threatens fresh strike over unpaid salaries
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) is threatening fresh industrial action over unpaid four months salaries in 2022.
The President of SSANU, Mohammed Haruna, made the announcement in a communique issued at the end of the association’s National Executive Council meeting on Monday.
SSANU noted that over 100 of its members had died due to lack of payment, hunger, treatable sicknesses, depression, and starvation.
The association also criticized the federal government’s announcement of a N5 billion subsidy palliative to states, calling it a political move.

Despite not accepting the last 35% and 25% pay rise for Nigerian University workers, SSANU has asked the government to begin implementing it promptly.
The association also called on the Education Minister, Professor Tahir Mamman, to conclude negotiations with SSANU regarding the 2009 FGN/SSANU agreement, as directed by President Bola Tinubu.
SSANU cautioned state governments against pulling their universities out of university unions, as it may lead to prolonged industrial disharmony.
The association also called on President Tinubu to quickly constitute governing councils for universities, expressing concerns over the usurpation of the board’s powers by the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
