NIPSS partners with Customs towards nation-building

In a concerted effort to strengthen partnerships with key institutions and agencies, the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, reached out to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to seek their assistance for the upcoming CGC Annual Conference.

This announcement was made during the visit of Professor Ayo Omotayo, Director-General of NIPSS, and his team to the Nigeria Headquarters Service Abuja to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Customs Service.

The Acting CGC expressed optimism that the conference would prioritize the achievement of significant outcomes, ultimately repositioning the NCS to effectively fulfill its mandate.

He wholeheartedly thanked DG NIPSS for initiating the collaboration that led to the signing of the MOU. He also expressed sincere appreciation for the dedication of the legal teams from both organizations, who worked tirelessly to finalize the document, and assured his unwavering commitment to upholding the principles outlined in the MOU.

In his own address, Professor Ayo Omotayo, Director-General of NIPSS, shared the agency’s motivation behind engaging with the NCS, emphasizing their aim to contribute to the repositioning agenda and enhance the effectiveness of the Customs Service in fulfilling its mandate.

He urged the Acting Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, to focus on transforming the NCS into a more proactive and multifaceted organization, not limiting itself to revenue collection but also actively supporting trade facilitation and promoting industrialization across various sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Professor Omotayo stressed the importance of the Nigeria Customs Service embracing data-driven strategies that can accurately model the country’s economy in the years to come. With shared excitement, he envisioned a future of progress and advancement for the nation, brought about through collaboration and synergy between both organizations.
