Panic as robbers invade banks in Benue, residents run for safety

Residents of Otukpo town in Benue State were thrown into chaos and fear as armed robbers stormed two banks in broad daylight.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, lasting for over an hour as the armed gang operated without any resistance.

Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers simultaneously attacked First Bank and Zenith Bank at 3:30 pm, causing people to scramble for safety. The intensity of the situation was heightened by the sound of gunshots echoing throughout the area. Sadly, two vigilantes lost their lives during the robbery.

“It’s a horrifying experience. Gunshots filled the air, and people were running everywhere to find safety. This is the first time we’ve encountered such a situation,” said one resident who preferred to remain anonymous.

As of now, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, has not responded to calls for comment regarding the incident.
