Prominent Nigerian Businessman-Politician Bello Maitama Yusuf, Sardaunan Dutse, dies at 76
Prominent Nigerian figure Bello Maitama Yusuf, known for his roles as the Minister of Interior and Commerce, and his success as a businessman, has passed away at the age of 76. His family sources confirm that he succumbed to a prolonged illness at a Kano hospital.

His funeral (Jana’iza) is scheduled to take place at the Kano Emir’s Palace following the Juma’at Prayer.
Bello Maitama Yusuf, Sardaunan Dutse, born in April 1947, received his education at North Gate University in Washington. He was a key figure in the defunct National Party of Nigeria.
Prior to his entry into politics, he established Quartz Integrated Services Nigeria Limited immediately after completing his university education. It grew to become a renowned and influential construction company, initially operating in Kano.
Maitama Yusuf was also a lawyer and held the position of Chief Registrar at the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kano. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly.
He was elected to the Senate, representing the Jigawa South West constituency in April 1999, and he was reelected in April 2003.
In recognition of his contributions, he was bestowed with the prestigious traditional title of “Sardaunan Dutse” in his home state, Jigawa.
