Royal family missing, 20 dead as IPOB/ESN terrorists attack Anambra community

No fewer than 20 individuals have lost their lives, and many others have been injured in the recent attack by unidentified gunmen known as the “Lion Squad” in the Ogwuaniocha community, located in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The community has been plagued by incessant killings, abductions, and property destruction at the hands of these criminals.

The women of the community, consisting mostly of elderly individuals, took to the streets of Onitsha and surrounding areas to protest against the deteriorating security situation. They alleged that the Lion Squad had abducted their monarch, Igwe Oliver Nnaji, back in 2021, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

According to Nkemdilim Onwurah, one of the women leaders, the attacks by the Lion Squad have escalated in recent days, causing residents to flee the community.

She called on the Anambra State government to intervene and put an end to the killings and insecurity that have left the community in fear.

Cecilia Okonkwo, another protester, shared that the same criminal group responsible for the attacks had previously kidnapped the traditional ruler of the community. The criminals, who have fled from neighboring communities, are now camping in various locations within Ogwuaniocha, terrorizing the residents.

The community has reached out to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the police headquarters in Awka, seeking urgent assistance. They expressed their desperation, highlighting the destruction of houses, disrupted economic activities, and the overall impact on the daily lives of the people.

As of now, the state police public relations officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed unawareness of the situation in Ogwuaniocha community. However, the community members continue to hope for a swift response from the government and security agencies to bring an end to the violence and restore peace and stability to their lives.
