Supreme Court refused to bend the law to suit your desires, Tinubu’s camp replies Atiku
Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has received criticism from the State House over his recent press conference following the ruling of the Supreme Court on his election petition appeal.
The State House accused Atiku of attempting to delegitimize the institutions of the State and blamed the judiciary for his defeat in the presidential election.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, issued the statement on behalf of the State House stating, “In his press conference, Atiku criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, for not bending the law to suit his desires”.
The State House denounced Atiku’s claims, calling his entire political career antithetical to higher ideals.
Despite his claims to have played a role in ending military rule in Nigeria, Atiku was known to be associated with the junta that imprisoned his mentor, Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
The State House expressed disappointment in Atiku’s refusal to accept his defeat and his pessimistic view of Nigeria.
Contrary to Atiku’s gloomy outlook, the State House asserted that Nigeria is not doomed, but rather moving forward under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The State House highlighted the progress in the country’s democracy, including the diverse representation in the National Assembly and the improvement of the electoral process.
The State House attributed Atiku’s defeat to his fragmented party platform and the unified campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under Tinubu’s leadership, they also criticised Atiku’s integrity claims, referencing his alleged involvement in a money laundering scandal.
Moving forward, the State House emphasized the need to strengthen institutions to identify individuals who seek to undermine the State. They also urged Atiku to let go of his presidential ambitions and promote national harmony.
