Tinubu dismisses NBC head, NAN CEO, others

President Bola Tinubu has sacked the heads of several government agencies under the Ministry of Information, including the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Shehu Illelah, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Buki Ponle.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media Publicity, announced the sack in a statement on Thursday.

Ngelale also disclosed the appointment of new heads of agencies, including Lanre Issa-Onilu as Director-General/CEO of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Muhammed Bulama as Director-General/CEO of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mr. Charles Ebuebu as Director-General/CEO of the NBC, Mr. Jibrin Baba Ndace as Director-General/CEO of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Dr. Lekan Fadolapo as Director-General/CEO of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Mr Ali Muhammed Ali as Managing Director/CEO of NAN, and Mr. Dili Ezughah as Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Press Council (NPC).

Additionally, the Director-General/CEO of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr. Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, had his tenure renewed.

Ngelale noted that the President has tasked the newly appointed leaders to innovate and create new opportunities for Nigerians through the effective reform of these key institutions of government, which function to unify the people, reshape mindsets, and showcase the nation to the world.

These appointments are effective immediately.
