While some crave for classmates, Amb. Damagum, PDP National Chairman’s classmates celebrate with him over son’s wedding
Friday, 20 October, 2023, will remain a happy day for Ambassador Umaru Iliya Damagum, the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s Acting National Chairman as his first son, Iliyasu, married his heartthrob, Amina Mohammed Yakubu Damagum, in their hometown of Damagum, headquarters of Fune Local Government in Yobe State.
Iliyasu, the groom, who is named after the national chairman’s father, is a staff of NIMASA, based in Lagos, whereas Amina, the bridegroom, is a student of Yobe State University, Damaturu.
Ambassador Umaru Iliya was ecstatic that in this period when some political leaders were running from pillar to post to get classmates, his classmates of 1982 set from Government College Maiduguri were also at the occasion among high profile dignitaries that blessed the gathering, to facilitate with him.

The person who stood for the bridegroom was Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State while the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Barde Gubana gave out the bridegroom for a bride price of ₦200,000.
Among the dignitaries present were the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, Senator Ken Nnamani, the 11th President of the Senate, Adamu Maina Waziri, former Minister of Police Affairs and PDP National Working Committee members as well as the Yobe State PDP Chairman and members of his executive council.
Others are Umar Usman Kadafur, Borno State Deputy Governor; the Yobe State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed Gadaka and other top government functionaries.
Royal Fathers were also not left behind as the Mai of Fune Alhaji Saleh ibn Idrissa and Mai of Ngelzarma Alhaji Zanna Mai Yeri ibn Isa (III) were there as well as Member, House of Representative, Fika/Fune, Engineer Buba Jajere (aka Peter) and that representing Bade/Jakusko, Hassan ibn Jaks and also Sani Sadi, former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency.

Ambassador Umaru Iliya’s classmates at the occasion, led by Umar Ibrahim Biu, a State Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria are Mohammed Umar Mai Luku, a retired State Auditor, Alhaji Saidu Rabiu and Engineer Baba Ali Abdullahi, both of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation; Dr Umar and Mohammed Maigari, both staff of Yobe Hospitals Management Board.
Others are Arhyel Dibal (Mr Nigeria); Pastor Philip; Hussaini Gimba Ahmed, a Director in the Yobe State Civil Service; Prince Mam Yerima.
