Appeal Court nullifies election of Kaduna Speaker, Dahiru Liman
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the election victory of Honourable Yusuf Dahiru Liman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who represents Makera constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The appeal court has ordered a rerun in five polling units following a petition filed by Honourable Solomon Nuhu Katuka of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election of Liman.
The election petition tribunal had initially nullified Liman’s election and ordered a rerun in 42 polling units, citing gross irregularities.
Neptune Prime gathered that the affected polling units include 37 in Makera ward, 2 in Barnawa ward, 1 in Kakuri Gwari ward, 1 in Television ward, and 1 in Kakuri Hausa ward.

After a series of appeals, the Appeal Court, in a judgment delivered by Justice O. O Adejumo, Justice A . O Oyetula, and Justice P. A Obiora, dismissed the appeal by the speaker and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The court ordered a rerun in just five polling units, including Barnawa ward PU 005 and 009, Kakuri Gwari PU 006, Television Ward PU 022, and Kakuri Hausa Ward PU 045.
The election results currently stand at 17,470 votes for the APC and 17,088 votes for the PDP. The nullification of Liman’s election was based on the 382-vote margin, which was less than the number of Permanent Voter Cards collected in the affected polling units.
