Bandits in Katsina target Maulud celebrants, kill 20

In a tragic incident, armed bandits attacked Muslim faithful who were celebrating Maulud in Kusa, a community in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the death of at least 20 people.

The assailants, numbering several, launched their assault around 11:05 p.m., catching the unsuspecting residents by surprise and throwing the village into a state of chaos and sorrow.

A vigilante member, who spoke to the DAILY POST, confirmed the brutal nature of the attack.

“The bandits surrounded the venue of the Maulud celebration and fired gunshot at the participant, injuring many and took several captives to an unknown location. Before the security forces could respond to the distress call, the assailants had disappeared into their hideouts. After the attack, we found 20 corpses inside the village.”

The police spokesman in Katsina, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, also confirmed the incident.

He stated, “Yes, there was an attack in Musawa LGA around 11 p.m. while people were having Maulud procession. Bandits attacked shot and injured 18 people. They were evacuated to the hospital for treatment. Later on, two among them died. Further investigation is ongoing for possible arrest and to bring the perpetrators of these acts to justice.”
