Canadian High Commission in Abuja suspends operations after fire outbreak
The Canadian High Commission in Abuja suspended its operations on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, following a fire incident that occurred on Monday.
The commission, located at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive in Abuja’s Central Business District, was notably devoid of staff, except for security personnel.
The commission announced the temporary suspension of its operations on its social media platform X formerly known as Twitter citing a fire that affected a section of the premises.

This suspension encompasses visa and immigration services for individuals planning to visit or move to Canada.
Additionally, services for Canadians in Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, as well as Sao Tome and Principe, such as adoption, birth abroad, citizenship, marriage, passport, notarial, education abroad, and other visa and immigration services, are currently unavailable.
A security personnel present at the commission’s duty post informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that no staff members were currently available, stating, “Come tomorrow, Wednesday, November 8”.
It could be recalled that two Nigerians lost their lives and two others sustained severe burns, requiring hospitalization at the National Hospital Trauma Centre in Abuja due to a fire caused by a diesel tank explosion in the embassy’s generator house.
