Story from Bilkisu Adamu, Lafia

The Nasarawa State House Committee on Health, headed by Chairman Larry Ven Bawa, carried out a routine oversight visit to the Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) on November 1, 2023, as part of their statutory duties.

In his opening statement, Chairman Larry Ven Bawa emphasized the three fundamental roles of the House, which include representation, legislative enactment, and oversight responsibilities. He called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in the interest of the state.

Chairman Larry Ven Bawa reiterated that the purpose of their visit was to evaluate the HMB’s budgetary performance and not to conduct a witch-hunt against Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. He commended the Board’s performance and advised them to adhere to budgetary provisions.

Following the oversight exercise, the Chief Medical Director expressed his gratitude to the committee for their visit and assured them that measures were in progress to address the current challenges faced by the Board, such as clinical staff attrition, inadequate manpower, and medical equipment shortages.
